Diving & Snorkelling in Mozambique |
Indian Ocean Scuba Diving, Snorkelling & Free Diving in Mozambique, South East Africa |
|
Mozambique and its islands in the Indian Ocean offers some of the best diving and snorkelling along the coast of east Africa. The rich and varied marine life along this section of the east African coast adds to the unique diving experience at these spectacular yet uncrowded and in many cases as yet undiscovered coral reefs. Regularly logged sightings on dives from the Mozambique coast include manta rays, turtles, dolphins, whale sharks, reef sharks, whales, numerous reef and game fish, harlequin shrimps and many other macro marine life species. The main diving areas of note from north to south are Pemba and the islands in the Quirimbas Archipelago, Nacala Bay, Vilanculos and the Bazaruto islands, Pomene Bay, the Inhambane area (Tofo, Barra, Guinjata Bay and Paindane) and Ponta do Ouro. ![]() Most dive centres and resorts hire out equipment for fly in tourists and it is possible to gain PADI diving qualifications from Open Water to more specialised courses at some centres. The sheltered warm waters in many of Mozambique's bays are ideal for beginners and often the "home reef" allows beginners to experience the underwater world from the shore. Many resorts in Mozambique are geared towards holiday divers, while in other areas fierce currents and surf boat launches challenge divers and the market is more geared towards experienced divers and/or those looking for more adrenalin packed holidays. Wherever you dive don't forget your dive card & logbook! |
