Welcome to Zavora Lodge
Zavora lodge has beautiful views over a long sandy beach around a natural bay, from the restaurant and bar area you can sit comfortably and lok out for dolphins and passing Hump-back Whales (in season).
Just a short stroll from the lodge and you are right on the beach where you can choose a direction to stroll in - long empty beaches stretch in both directions, paddle in the warm Indian Ocean waters, admire the beautiful shells, take a swim, or relax in the sun. The lodge has an activity centre offering scuba diving trips, ocean Safaris and fishing trips.
Accommodation
Camping
There are 20 large campsites. The campsites are on the protected side of the
dune, unfortunately without a sea view, but a short walk and you are over
the dune and onto the beach. There are adequate ablutions, cold and Hot water
showers and flushing toilets. Shade is limited so please pack extra shading.
In season we have a minimum 4 to 6 people per campsite required, depending
on the size of the campsite.
Bungalows
There are four 4 sleeper Thatched Bungalows, and a 6-sleeper bungalow. In
these they supply bedding, open plan kitchenette with 3 plate gas cooker,
cutlery and crockery, table and chairs (of the white garden furniture type)
each bungalow area has its own ablutions, cold water showers and flushing
toilet. There are electric lights while the main generator is on, thereafter
lighting is paraffin lamps. Not serviced, servants must be recruited; this
is done at the security office adjacent to the security boom.
Beach houses
There are 2 houses, one 6-sleeper house and then there is an 8-sleeper. In
these they supply bedding, kitchen with 2-plate gas cooker, cutlery and crockery.
Each house has its own bathroom, hot and cold-water showers and flushing toilet.
Lighting is paraffin lamps. Not serviced, servants must be recruited; this
is done at the security office adjacent to the security boom. Electric lighting
has just been put into the houses, but this is dependant on the generator
being on, so it is advisable to pack candles and Tilley lamps.
Restaurant and Bar
Meals can be arranged at the restaurant, you are encouraged to pre book meals
to avoid disappointment. Then there is a pub. Bread and ice is also available
on a daily basis, high season there is not enough to go round so please do
not rely on purchasing ice and bread daily.
Launching
The launching of ski-boats and rubber ducks is very easy at Závora, as there is a protected bay. Driving on the beach is not allowed in Mozambique, launch permits are required; Závora office has permits for sale.
Driving on the beach
Driving on the beach is only permitted for permit holders. Clients are allowed to drive on the beach to launch. Please remember to respect the safety of other holiday makers. Launch permits are available at a cost of R110.00 for a 5-10 day permit. 4 wheeler bikes are banned on the beach.

A 50% deposit is required to hold your reservation with balance payable 10 weeks before your travel date. Bank transfer, credit and debit cards accepted for pre-bookings. Paypal available on request.
Directions
Getting to the lodge is an easy drive just 400km north of Maputo on the main tar road EN1, then a short drive down a sand track from the main road to Zavora Lodge. The track is passable with care in a 2wd, a high ground clearance vehicle is recommended, in the rainy season the track can get a little tricky for 2wd vehicles. For customers wishing to fly in the nearest airport is at Inhambane see flight schedule and Zavora Lodge can arrange transfers from Inhambane to Zavora lodge, road transfers are also available from Maputo.
