We stayed at Fatimas Nest because we didn't want to walk any further
with our backpacks.
This hostel is designed to be cheap and cheerful. Unfortunately it
is not cheap and definitely not cheerful.
We stayed in a grass hut near the beach, we could hear the ocean and
couldn't be closer to the beach. We were really impressed.
However, the reception were miserable, the huts were really close
together and for some reason they turn the bass on maximum at around
midnight (despite there being about three people in the bar).
After having moved, we could still hear the bass on the otherside
of the bay. |

This place is one of the few hostel type accomodations in Tofo and
the owners take advantage of the fact that they're popular and in
the Lonely Planet guide. Prices are very high for what you get considering
you're in Mozambique. They also get away with it because they also
have one of the few hostels in Maputo from where they run a (very
expensive) shuttle to this place.
The location is great right on the beach. There is camping available
with your own tent or in theirs. We used our own and it still cost
us about $5 per person per night. Workers are not very considerate
in the campground area - they didn't have an issue playing soccer
and yelling around the tents at 5am. I saw some of the rooms. Some
are more spaciout, some are more cramped. All are too expensive for
what you get.
Showers are good and there are kitchen facilities available. The bar
is usually happening at nights since this is where most backpackers
gather.
Drinks are relatively expensive and food is also expensive for Mozambique.
However, Tofo is pretty secluded and you don't have many other options.
If you're on a strict budget, make sure to buy produce before you
arrive to this small place and use the kitchen facilities to cook
for yourself. |
