The most popular tourist destinations are the coastal areas around Inhambane: Tofo Beach and the Barra Peninsula; Jangamo Beach and Pandane Beach on the Guinjata Bay and a few hidden gems such as the beach and estuary at Pomene also attracting a number of tourists each year.
Inland is the Limpopo National Park which borders with Kruger National Park in South Africa. Borders have recently opened between the two parks however there are few tourist facilities on the Mozambique side and the best way to visit is to take a guided Self-Drive trip or to stay at the newly opened Machampane Wilderness Trails Camp (a private tented camp) for some walking trails with armed game rangers. From the Mozambique side the park is most accessible from Xai-Xai on the coat just south of the Limpopo River where a sealed road takes you to Massingir Dam.
The capital of the region is Inhambane, Barra Peninsula and Tofo Beach are within easy reach from here and transfers from Inhambane airport can be arranged. Transfers to resorts at Jangamo Beach can also be arranged, although the road is usually in bad condition.
