Efficient, functional hotel centrally located in Maputo. I stayed 3 weeks for a business mission and had no problems with Internet (wifi in the spacious and airy rooms).
Good service in all departments, clean and spacious rooms, food not in the "haute cuisine" category but copious and a reasonable menu.
Staff I came into contact with were all very friendly, and most can speak/understand English.
Taxis are always available at a cab stand in front of the hotel ($4 to go to the more upmarket Polona district where most restaurants and 5 star hotels are located).
Other places of interest in easy walking distance (15m to Fortaleza, Railway station or Central Market, 5m to Jardim Botanic or Art Museum).
Hotel does not accept travellers cheques but takes Visa/Amex etc. If bringing travellers cheques go to Barclay's Bank on 25 Setembro (10m walk - the only place I found that would make the change - you need to drop your request and come back 3 hours later to collect the money !!!)

Arriving to Mozambique, we spend 2 nights at Pestana Rovuma Hotel. It was very centrally located and although very busy we got an upgrade to a suite. The room was simple but very clean, cosy and spacious. We had a beautiful view to Maputo bay and the cathedral.
The service at the restaurant was very good and the food delicious. A special thank you to Sarmento, the nicest waiter we have come across. Try the Zambezian chicken, superb!
On our third day we took a plane to Bazaruto Island where we spend the most amazing five nights of our lives at Bazaruto Lodge.

We spent 2 nights at the Rovuma and what a joy. The room was clean and they catered to our every need. The staff was helpful with all our requirements, despite the language barrier! The decor of the restuarant and bars are superb and comfortable. We will definitely go back there! One downside that others may see is that the neighbouring buildings are run down (as in most of Maputo) and the roads are dirty. Quite frankly it only added to our experience of their culture. Definitely not a city for the narrow minded and dreamy person......
