Activities:
Mahelane Lodge has a wide variety of activities to choose from,
deep sea game fishing, open water 1 diving, various water sports,
unique play area for the children.
Water Skiing, Sea Kayaking (double), Tubing, Wake Snaking, Snorkeling,
Turtle Watching (seasonal), Whale Watching (in season only), Beach
Transfers, Transfers to Channel Mouth.
Launching of boats:
Payable to Maritimo (The local Marine Authorities). This includes
the inspection and the license for 30 days. Launch of boats is opposite
the Petromoc (Petrol Station).

Payable to Maritimo (The local Marine Authorities). This includes
the inspection and the license for 30 days. Launch of boats is opposite
the Petromoc (Petrol Station).
Important information:
VISAS are no longer required if you have a South African Passport.
* A valid driver’s license must be carried on your person
at all times.
* If you are towing a trailer or boat, you are required to attach
a triangle on the front of your vehicle.
* You must at all times keep your Certificate of Origin for your
vehicle on you.
Mozambique is a malaria area. Contact your Doctor or visit your
Pharmacist to obtain prophylactics and repellents in order to keep
you and your family safe from this killer disease. Body repellent
lotions and sticks are more effective than sprays.
It is not necessary to exchange too much Rands to Mets (Meticais),
as they exchange money at the Garages before the border posts. The
current rate is between 2.4 and 2.7 Mets to the Rand. It is advisable
to exchange some Rands, say about R 300.00 just so that you have
some Meticais with you.
AT THE BORDER:
ON THE SOUTH AFRICAN SIDE:
Complete a vehicle temporary export document, have it stamped and
then proceed to immigration with your passports.
ON THE MOZAMBICAN SIDE:
Proceed to immigration with your passports and pay approx. R 20.00
per person Tourism Tax, then proceed to the Customs desk and present
your Temporary Export Permit and pay approx. 30 Meticais (approx.
R10) for car papers.
Very important – buy your 3rd party insurance, approx. R150.00
at the Insurance office. An additional payment is to be made of
R70.00 for any trailer linked to a vehicle.
We are a CATERED Resort, thus urge guests not to bring their Drinks
and Food supplies. We do not have facilities to store additional
stocks. But should you require snacks and the like, you are allowed
to do so at the value of $ 50.00 per person. You will probably be
asked to present your Original Purchase Invoices.
If the value exceeds $ 50.00, you will have to declare your goods
and pay import taxes. In order for you to declare, you have to fill
in a Bill of Entry form which is done at the Clearing Agents at
the South African border post. The Clearing Agent will assist you
with further arrangements.

ROUTE:
If you have passed through the Komatiport Border post,
you will pass a Toll Gate, pay 95 Meticais
(Approx. R 50.00) .Rands are accepted.
The Maputo tollgate you need to travel through will cost 17, 5 Meticais
(approx. R6.00).
Radar Speed traps are common in small villages, and you must obey
the speed limits and always wear your safety belts.
Never entertain bribes if and when stopped by the police, Police
wear white uniforms with blue hats.
After the Toll Gate that requires 125 Meticais, you will travel
approx. 3km’s where you will see a sign that says XAI-XAI
(pronounced Shy-Shy), just before you cross over a large bridge,
Turn Left. You will then pass around Maputo. You will get to a Traffic
Control, and then go through a small town Manhiça, shortly
afterwards another small town Palmeira, after which you will proceed
to Macia, from Maputo to Macia you will travel 156 km’s.
At Macia, just after the BP Garage you turn right on a tarred road.
Carry on straight for another 33 km’s until you drive straight
into Bilene. You will get to a circle, go around the circle and
pass the Motel on your left hand side. Carry on straight until you
get to a T-junction and Carioca will be in front of you.
YOU HAVE ARRIVED:
At Carioca turn right, pass Aquarius on your left and the
next beach front restaurant you will see is called Complexo Ferias
do Bilene, Across the road you will see a fenced off grass parking
to leave your vehicle with 24 hour security watching the vehicles.
When you arrive we will send the boat to collect you as well as
for any other directions or enquiries you may need.
It is advisable that guests arrive by no later that 19:00 as you
will need to cross the lagoon and we are not permitted to be crossing
the lagoon at night due to the fishermen’s nets being out
in the water at night.
Once you are at the Lodge, you will be shown to your chalet, and
your luggage will be taken to your chalet for you. You will then
be given your key, and we ask you kindly not to misplace your key
at any time.
Note: If you bring Jet Ski’s or boats, you will be required
to launch them at the Ramp (Opposite the Petrol Station).
