Car Hire Insurance Cover Explained

Standard and Super Cover

When you return your hire car you will be required to pay for tyre and windscreen damage, and also any damage that occurs to the hire car up to the excess amount (your maximum liability in the event of anything happening to the hire car during the rental period) as well as any top up of fuel if the car is returned from hire without a full tank. To cover this a Rental Deposit by credit card is required on collection of the car hire(Mastercard and Visa are the most commonly accepted), - usually this is equal to the excess amount plus a R1000 fuel deposit, the money will however not be removed from your card unless the hire car is damaged.

Car Hire Driver Requirements

Car Hire drivers must hold a valid, unendorsed driving licence
For Non South African Licence holders and International Drivers Permit is required for driving in South Africa
South African residents must be 21 years or over
Non South African residents under 21 years may be permitted if they have held a full drivers licence for at least 2 years. A Young Drivers surcharge will apply.
