Mango Beach Lodge Tofo Mozambique

Nestled in the coconut plantation right on the beach you will find rustic and peaceful Mango Beach, where you will be able to relax, rejuvenate and find yourself again. All our units are tucked behind a dune, away from the elements, and within a stone throw away from the beautiful white sand beaches that Mozambique is famous for. Close enough to Tofo town, so you can share in the hustle and bustle of the local market and beach side bars, restaurants and beat of the music, if this is your thing.

Our Restaurant and Bar is located on the top of the dune, with a 180 degree view of the ocean, where you can indulge yourself in the calming effects of the sea, watch the whales play, or count the ships passing by. The Bar and Restaurant is open all day and most of the night, with our restaurant serving a variety of cuisines for Breakfast, lunch and Dinner.

There are amazing dinners consisting of a variety of locally caught and freshly produced products seafood: prawns, crayfish, barracuda, clams and whatever is caught earlier on that day, as well as home-made, and rolled pizza’s and pasta’s to die for… drinks flow and consist mainly of locally brewed beers and spirits, so ensure you get your first R&R early.

There is a large reef that runs in front of the lodge creating a natural rock pool that is awesome to relax in without having to brave the waves and of course perfectly safe for kids. Other water sports and activities such as SCUBA diving, Kite surfing, snorkeling, fishing charters are available close by and can be arranged as part of a package.

Accommodation at Mango Beach Lodge, Tofo

There are 3 types of accommodation to choose from:

Bush-camp and Camping - This is for travelers that are on a tighter budget and don’t mind roughing it a bit. It is like camping as you stay in the bush-camp huts, or you do full camping by bringing your own 4x4 equipped camper or tent. There is a clean shared ablution block with hot water, a shared kitchen and central Boma under which to relax and share the day’s fun with friends. There are 20 Sites in total, of which 10 Huts.

Cabana accommodation – This cabana sleep 4 people (single beds) in 1 large airy room. The private veranda is surrounded by greenery and has a table and 4 chairs. There is a clean shared ablution block with hot water showers. There are 9 Cabana’s available

Casa accommodation – This option sleeps 6 in 2 bedrooms (double bed in 1 bedroom and two singles in the other bedroom) plus 2 single beds in the lounge area that double as couches in the day. the Casa’s also have an outdoor dining area, little private garden with braai, equipped kitchen with fridge/freezer and gas cooker and a bathroom with hot water and undercover parking for 1 car. There are only 2 Casas available to be booked.

Tofo is world famous for the various reefs nearby and the superb diving sites. See Giant Manta, Whale Sharks, sea turtles and a whole underwater wonder-world. There are 4 Scuba operators in the area and all very professional with friendly and enthusiastic dive masters and instructors. Snorkeling in the area is great. You can do a little bit off the rock reef at Mango Beach, but for serious snorkelers, an Ocean Safari with one of the scuba companies is a must!

The town of Tofo is approx. 490 km North of Maputo on the EN1, 20 Kilometers from Inhambane. Mango Beach is located approximately 4 Kilometers from Tofo Town, along the main beach road towards Barra. Nestled in the coconut plantation right on the beach, with all accommodation tucked behind a dune.

How to get there

By air:
Fly from O.R. Tambo International to directly to Inhambane with LAM or fly to Maputo first with SAA or LAM & then connect to Inhambane.

By Car:
Ideally a 4x4, but you can get all the way into Tofo Village, where you can leave your car. We will fetch you from the village. Tofo is approximately 490km North of Maputo on the EN1

By Coach:
Luxury air conditioned coach - Panthera Azul. From Jhb to Maputo then connect from Maputo to Maxixe. 10 minute water taxi trip across the bay to Inhambane where we will fetch you. Not so luxury local coaches called Oliveiras - (cheap but you'll be sharing with goats and chickens). From Maputo to Inhambane - where we will fetch you.
