Welcome to the incredible world of Somente Aqua, Ponta Do Ouro, Mozambique. The Somente Aqua team is dedicated to the observation and conservation of our magnificent marine surroundings. Supported by day-to-day data collection and marine monitoring, our commitment to the environment is continuously reinforcing the sustainable preservation of our marine life.

Mozambique has a predominantly tropical climate, with a cool season from May to July. The rainy season is from November to April.

Here, a moment below the surface of the ocean will remain with you for a lifetime. We invite you to join us in observing and interacting with the amazing cetaceans and other marine life residing in the bays of southern Mozambique.
In Ponta we have an incredibly special bond with a group of wild dolphins (some resident and others transient to the area) with whom we socialize and have formed some profound bonds and inter-relationships. We feel it is our obligation, and have therefore made it our key purpose, to ensure the well being and preservation of the dolphins, as well as other marine life within the area, at all times.

Our wild dolphin swim programme is regulated by a responsible Code of Conduct, manifested from years of experience of swimming with wild dolphins. We are one of only two authorized dolphin operators within the Ponta do Ouro region, and by following and maintaining our strict practice conduct, you can be rest assured that you are in capable hands.

The Dolphin Centre crew is unwavering in their dedication to the sustained conservation of our magnificent surroundings. It is through detailed ecological briefings and our meticulously formulated Code of Conduct that we are able to simultaneously educate our clients while preserving the richness of our aquatic environment. We promote Responsible Marine Mammal Tourism in creating a sustainable eco-friendly approach while conserving our environment through education. Education is our key strategy in our commitment to conservation, and we believe through education we achieve our conservation objective.

At Somente Aqua we want you to have the best possible experience when swimming with wild dolphins. We hope to share this experience with you as we dance with the dolphins of Ponta - our "beloved special finned friends".

Accommodation at Somente Aqua Lodge , Ponta do Ouro

Somente Lodge rests against the dune overlooking the Thanje campsite. Nestled amongst the trees and connected by boardwalks, these wooden chalets are only a few minutes' walk from the beach.

Each chalet has a fully equipped open-plan kitchen/lounge area, with all doors leading onto a patio with braai facilities. One- and two-bedroom chalets are available, accommodating two to six guests.

Somente Aqua also offers a luxury three-bedroom apartment which is situated above the Dolphin Centre, as well as other luxury private residences with sweeping sea views. Please contact us for more information on these residences.

Main bedroom with double bed a ceiling fan, second bedroom with 2 x single beds and ceiling fan, shower and toilet next to the kitchen, fully equipped self-catering kitchen, living area with double sleeper couch (mainly for children) with ceiling fan, patio table on the front deck with partial sea view, all chalets have their own braai facility and within walking distance to the beach. Required to bring own towels for beach and shower.

Unit One and Three has 2 Bedrooms sleeping maximum 4 to 6 people.
Unit Two and Four has 1 Bedroom sleeping maximum 2 to 4 people.

Food
Most basic foodstuff can be bought in Mozambique
Local Markets sell vegetables, fruit, seafood, bread, eggs, rice and other basics
Cold drinks and beer are widely available from shops
Red meat is not easily available and long life milk, fruit juice, cheese and dairy products are quite expensive
Use bottles water or boil water prior to consumption.

Documents needed to enter Mozambique
Valid Passport (SA residents do not require visas. All other nationalities require visas)
Valid Driver's Licence of the driver (SA drivers licence accepted)
Vehicle Registration Documents
Valid Temporary Vehicle Import papers available at the border (only DA341 form)
Compulsory Third Party Liability Insurance Certificate

Travelling in Mozambique
International and South African driver's licenses are recognised in Mozambique.
Third Party Insurance is compulsory for foreign registered vehicles.
A temporary import permit must also be obtained at the border post, the DA341 is only obtainable at the border.
The vehicle must be equipped with two red emergency triangles, and safety belts must be worn at all times.
Original ownership papers for vehicles are needed to get through the border posts. If your vehicle is still under a lease agreement, get a letter from the bank, giving you permission to take the vehicle across the border. Ensure that your current comprehensive vehicle insurance is valid in Mozambique.
Observe speed limits well within the stated limits since the authorities might use outdated and "uncelebrated" radar and other equipment.

Money
The local currency is called METICALS (mt). This will vary and is directly connected to the international markets. For the best exchange rate is advisable to go to a Mozambique bank when in Mozambique or at Rennies bank Nelspruit. Money can also be exchanged at dealers, but don't expect the same rate as offered by the bank. Locals might also offer to exchange money, but be aware of being short-changed and often offer false exchange rates.
