Entertainment:
Cumbini Resort, named after a local family named ‘Cumbi”,
is only 6 years young and uniquely located amongst an array of more than
500 coconut palms. The resort is situated in a quiet part, north of the
Guinjata bay area, with its own almost private beach without vehicles
parked on it.
A five minute beach walk away, brings you to a busy beach with some nice
restaurants, bars, dive centres, dive shop and curio stalls, offering
local arts and crafts for sale.
Paddle ski’s and surf boards are available to rent at the dive shop.
Fishing & Diving holiday:
Diving and fishing are of the most popular things to do in Guinjata bay.
We can assist you with organising your diving or fishing trip, as we are
working in close relationship with experienced local fishing and diving
operators. It’s advised that reservations are made for these activities
well in advance because of the popularity of these charters. Pleasure
trips and whale watching safaris are also available
Easy to access:
4X4 vehicles can comfortably reach our resort. Other vehicles with rear
“diff-lock” configuration and well deflated tyres, can also
reach us. Safe parking for smaller 2-wheel drive bakkies and passenger
cars, are available within 1.5 kilometres from our resort. In these cases,
we offer free assistance to our guests for the transportation of camping
gear, luggage etc. to the resort.

GPS co-ordinates:
S 24’03.825’
E 035’29.443’
Estimated travel time from Johannesburg 17 hours (including border).
Overnight facilities:
Take your time and make from the trip already a holiday. Most people stay
over half way. Popular are the Blue Anchor and Casa Lisa which are located
45km north of Maputo. Another overnight by the name Honey Pot is situated
near Xai-xai, (approximately 200 km north of Maputo). We can assist you
with the bookings for all of these facilities.
Drive safely:
The road via Nelspruit and Maputo to the north is a good and safe road
to travel. Road construction is however in process for approximately 100
km north of Xai-xai. Always wear safety belts and do not exceed speed
limits (100 km/h on the open road and 60km/h through villages).
Be sure that you have:
•Two triangles in your car
•A reflector vest
•In case of a boat or trailer: A triangle sticker on the front of
your car and on the back of your trailer.
•A letter of authority if the driver of a vehicle is not the registered
owner of it, e.g. company vehicle or still on HP?
•Your vehicle registration documents, temporary import and insurance
papers and your driver’s licence available for inspection.
Fuel:
Diesel and petrol is generally available in most of the bigger towns,
but make sure to fill up in Maputo and Xai-xai. The nearest filling station
to the resort is in Inhambane town, 24 km north.
Malaria precautions:
The resort is situated in a malaria low risk area. The accommodation is
situated near to the beach, experiencing a light breeze from the ocean
most of the time, and the fact that there are no swamps nearby, the occurrence
of malaria cases is very low. However, minor precautions are advised.
The use of mosquito repellents and nets are recommended throughout the
year.
We have a spray program for the buildings which is based on the guidelines
of the National Department of Health. All the accommodation units have
mosquito nets.
We would advise you to consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not
sure of the precautions you need to take.
Safety at the resort and on the Mozambican road:
The resort being situated in a quiet and tranquil environment with a population
of friendly people in the neighboring area enables us to offer you a safe
holiday. Our crime rate is almost nonexistent. Our units are equipped
with alarm systems and small safes to ensure the safety of your valuables
like money, cameras, cell phones and jewellery. Guards bearing two-way
radios are present 24 hours.
Safe drinking water:
The tap water of the resort is safe to drink and it comes from our own
borehole. It is advisable to take bottle water with you during your trip
here.
Safety on the road:
The road via Nelspruit and Maputo is a good and safe road to travel. Improvements
to the road surface are constantly in process.
Except for the last 18 km being dirt road, the whole route is tarred road.
Always wear safety belts and do not exceed the speed limits of 100km/h
on the open road, and 60 km/h in built-up areas. Speed traps are present
especially in the cities and small towns. Traffic Police normally don’t
hassle tourists, but will stop and fine you if traffic regulations are
ignored. Keep vehicle papers and drivers licence at hand for inspection.
Sharks, safe swimming:
It is safe to swim. There have been no (known) shark attacks since resorts
are based in the area. Local fisherman have been fishing and spear fishing
here for many years from small rowing boats and truck inner tubes with
their legs in the water and no injuries or deaths from shark attacks have
occurred.
Money: Mozambique currency (Meticais):
It is possible to pay with Rands, Dollars and Euros but it’s advisable
to change money to the local currency (Meticais) for petrol and the daily
general purchases, as filling stations and shops don’t offer a good
exchange rate. Money can be changed at the banks in the bigger towns like
Xai-xai or Inhambane.
ATM’s are also available, but make sure that your card is compatible
to the international banking systems. Visa and Master card in general
seems to work well here. At the resort we offer the possibility to exchange
small amounts of money against the daily exchange rate.
Be careful with changing money at the border, often people lose a lot
of money due to “smart” exchange tricks. If you would like
to change money at the border, your border assistant will arrange for
a reliable person to deal with.
Groceries at local supermarket (500m):
Just 500 meter from the resort is situated a basic supermarket and bakery
where you can buy the basic essential toiletries, foodstuffs, liquor,
cold drinks, meat etc.
In the town of Inhambane (24km north), are many small Indian shops and
a central market offering clothing, curios and a wide variety of vegetables
and fruit.
We advise you to bring from South Africa things like meat (vacuum packed),
Cheese, snacks, sweets etc. as just the basic foodstuffs are available
here, nothing fancy.
Border Mozambique: make it hassle free
Passing the border does not have to be a hassle if you prepare yourself
well for it. South African residents do not need a visa, overseas tourists
do need one. They can get a visa at the border (also at the airport in
Inhambane) but it is advisable to get it beforehand at the Mozambican
embassy.
Take with:
•Vehicle registration documents (original or certified copy)
•A letter of authority from the owner if the driver of a vehicle
is not the registered owner
•A letter and certified copy of registration documents from the
bank, if the vehicle is on hire purchase
•Registration documents of trailer (where applicable)
•Passports and ID documents
Documentation at the border:
•Pay border duties (about R17 per person)
•Temporary Import Permit for your car
•Take out temporary third party insurance (valid for 30 days)
We advice you to buy the third party insurance at the border so that the
date on all your documents are the same.
Border assistance:
We can offer a border assistance service on the Mozambican side. A competent
and reliable person at the border assists you with all your paperwork
and the procedures. It’s recommended that first time visitors to
Mozambique make use of this service – it makes it just that much
easier. This will cost plus minus R150 per vehicle. (An additional fee
will be charged if assistance is required on the South African side of
the border)
