Tenda Tora is ideally situated above the town with magnificent views of the ocean's mouth and salt water lagoon, surrounded by the adjacent nature reserve and a fresh water lake. Situated within walking distance to bars and restaurants which mouth-watering Portuguese cuisine, guests at Tenda Tora are never short of a variety of activities to ensure their holiday in Bilene is as lively (or as restful) as they wish.

Accommodation at Tenda Tora, Bilene

Affordable up market self catering accommodation in Bilene. Maximum 50 Guests (3 x 3 bedroom and 8 x 2 bedroom chalets). All bedrooms are air conditioned and each chalet has its own plunge pool and braai (Barbeque) with 24 hr security guards, full DSTV (smart card included) and great views of the ocean and salt water lagoon.

Comfortable beds, clean fresh linen, bath and hand towels, large square Mozzy (mosquito) nets and fully equipped self-catering kitchen with fridge/freezer, stove/oven and all cutlery/crockery. Municipal electricity and borehole water supplied by pressure pumps.

Warm friendly staff, Internet available in the reception, secure parking, tranquil area. All chalets are serviced daily at no extra cost. Relax at your own private plunge pool or on one of the many beaches.

Situated 180 Km's North of Maputo (By tar road) - 90 Km's South of Xai-Xai (By tar road). 4 x 4 Not required!!!

Please note that we are not on the beach. Geographically we are only 295m from the beach but there is no direct access in front of us, therefore a 1 minute drive or a 5 - 8 min walk will get you to the nearest white sandy beaches of the well known massive salt water lagoon.

The Lodge is beautifully located on top of a hill above the town and is the only resort that offers breath taking views of both the lagoon and ocean's waves with the peace and tranquility of being slightly away from the sometimes busy water's edge and main road.

The town boasts two filling stations, more than 10 restaurants, bars, shops, food and fish market, arts and crafts stalls, 2 x banks (3 x ATM points), white sandy beaches, boat launching ramps, cell phone coverage, private clinic with a Doctor (full time), small landing strip and lots more.

Bilene's calm lagoon and Indian ocean is the ideal destination for the whole family.

Travel Tips and Important Information
Documents required:
1. An original or certified copy of your vehicle documents / registration certificate.
2. A valid driver's license (your SA one will do)
3. A letter of authorization to cross the border from your car insurance company and car finance company (If still under finance). These documents are not required at the border but may be required at a check point.
4. Compulsory 3rd party insurance which is obtainable at the border for around R150 + R80 for a trailer/caravan.
5. You do not need to fill in a temporary export document for your SA registered vehicle and trailers anymore on the SA side.

Passports / visas
Southern African passport holders no longer require a visa, for other passport holders, a visa can be obtained at the border. Make sure your passports are still valid for 6 months and that you have enough pages for 4 stamps. Make 100% sure that all passports are stamped with the correct date.

Tri angles / reflective vests / stickers
A blue and yellow triangle sticker is necessary if towing a trailer/boat or caravan and should be placed on the front of the car and at the back of the trailer. Even if you are not towing, you will require two red triangles and a reflective vest in the car and a ZA sticker on the back of your car (if the car is registered in SA)

Road Tax
On the Mozambique side you will pay about R15 per car for road tax and will need to fill in a temporary import form for your car, trailer etc…

Groceries / Duties
You may take the equivalent of $50 (US Dollars) of groceries duty free per person (including children). Each adult is allowed one bottle of spirits or two bottles of wine or 12 beers and 200 cigarettes (1 carton) duty free.

Red meat and dairy products are not always available in Bilene, so it is advisable to bring these items with or you can purchase them at Shoprite in Matola (just before Maputo-en route) U-save Shoprite is open in Macia now, so it is not necessary to bring everything with you.

Frozen chicken, fresh fish and prawns, potatoes, rice, veggies, beer, wine, spirits, charcoal, fire lighter’s, Portuguese bread rolls (pao), sweets, snacks, sugar, cold drinks, long life milk, some fruits(limited), cashew nuts and arts and crafts are all available in Bilene.

Please bring your own swimming towels, sun block cream, mosquito/insect repellent, firelighters and snorkeling/fishing equipment.

Malaria
Mozambique is considered to be a malaria area. You are advised to consult your doctor or pharmacist. We recommend that you bring peaceful sleep as it has been proven to last longer than any other brand).

Petrol and Diesel
There are numerous filling stations along the way that supply diesel and petrol. Bilene boasts two fuel stations with shops. Currently the fuel is about the same price in Moz as it is in SA. (up dated in May 2011)

Deep sea fishing, shore fishing, scuba diving, kayaking, boat cruises (available at very good rates), Portuguese cuisine, seafood, prawns, relaxing, sun bathing, snorkeling, jet skiing (bring your own),quad biking (bring your own) shallow safe swimming in the lagoon 4x4 excursions - great scenery (bring your own 4x4).

Directions to Tenda Tora

Directions from Johannesburg, Nelspruit:

From Johannesburg / Pretoria, travel on the N4 to Komatipoort. Enter at the Lebombo border post, Komatipoort, SA side. Travel approx 90 km's towards Maputo. Turn left just before Maputo on the EN1 towards Xai-Xai for approx 150 km's.
At the town, Macia turn right to Praia do Bilene for approx 33 km's
You will arrive at a circle (Bilene Motel)
Take the second exit (the Motel will be on your right)
At the T-Junction turn left, the road will bend to the right and slope downhill to a T-junction. Turn left for approx 200m’s. Go past the market (left hand side)
Immediately after the market - turn left onto a dirt road (Tenda Tora sign, Bairro Mahungo, Nhabanga sign, lots of signs)
(If you go past the Millennium Bim bank, you have gone too far.)
Go over the little bridge for approx 400m’s and take the very first right and immediately right again.
We are approximately 700 metres off the main tarred road.
Follow the Tenda Tora signs and arrive safely at our entrance.
Enter and please report to the reception upon arrival.
