Flamingo Bay Water Lodge is situated in the pristine tidal bay of Inhambane 485km north of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique.

The lodge is situated on stilts on the crystal clear waters of the warm Indian Ocean. This eco-paradise is home to flocks of flamingo’s, tropical fish and the very rare dugong. The sunsets at Flamingo Bay are nothing less than breathtaking.
The warm Indian Ocean offers safe bathing all year round and the endless wide open beaches offer hours of strolling pleasure.

PLEASE NOTE: The lodge is not on the open sea but on a beautiful tidal estuary and experiences the same tidal changes as one would experience at any coastal resort. This however creates an interesting environment with the fish following the tide as it moves in and out as well as the birds and crabs and other estuarine creatures appearing and moving with these daily changes.

Flamingo Bay has access to the open ocean which is a short walk out the back of the lodge. Guests are also afforded the privelage of frequent and regular complimentary vehicle transfers throughout the day to Barra Lodge in order to enjoy its facilities right on the main beach as well as all the activities on offer.

NO CHILDREN 12 YEARS AND UNDER ARE PERMITTED AT FLAMINGO BAY WATER LODGE

Conference Centre
A spacious air-conditioned conference centre seats 60 guests comfortably. More information may be obtained from the reservations office in this regard.

One can fly directly from O.R.Tambo Airport in Johannesburg to Inhambane or drive the 485km stretch from Maputo. These flights will operate throughout the week.

Situated 485km north of Maputo, access by road is on a tarred road which is suitable for normal vehicles. The road from Maputo to Xai Xai has been upgraded and resurfaced. Please note that there are numerous towns and villages en-route and the main road often passes directly through these villages. Speed limits are enforced in these places and it is advised to drive with caution. Do not drive at night. The drive from Maputo to Inhambane can take anything between 6 – 8 hours and sufficient time needs to be allowed to avoid night driving.

From the historical city of Inhambane it is only a 30 minute drive to Flamingo Bay. This scenic drive winds through local villages and groves of tropical coconut trees.

Weddings:
We are a fabulous venue for a wedding, with nature’s greatest gift, our unique tidal bay as a backdrop. Our friendly staff will ensure that they provide a professional, warm and stress free environment for your special day. They will bring to fruition all you planned, leaving you free to indulge yourself and enjoy your special day to the full.
Unfortunately Flamingo Bay cannot cater for weddings if you are not staying at the lodge. No outside weddings are catered for to protect the privacy of lodge guests.

Directions:
From Johannesburg:
• Take the N4 - past Witbank, Mbombela(Nelspruit) and all the way to the Komatipoort border.
• Once through the Ressano Garcia border post, follow the main toll road to Maputo
• As you enter Maputo proceed through the toll gate and shortly after take a left turn onto EN1 to Xai-Xai. This is the main coastal road north.
• Pass Villages of Maracuene (28km), Manhica (75km), Macia (143km) and Chissano to the town of Xai-Xai 204km North of Maputo, this is a good place to re-fuel.
• Continue on the North Coastal Road passing smaller villages and towns, including Chidenguele (262km), Quissico (392km) and Inharrime (372km).
• From Inharrime continue for approximately 45km passing Cumbano which has a large radio mast on the left side of the road to LINDELA
• Keep a look out for a sign board on your left saying LINDELA.
• Immediately after this sign the tar road forks, turn right.
• Inhambane is approximately 33km from this turn.
• Once in Inhambane drive to where you see the harbour quay on your left.
• Turn right at Broad Road Ave. DA Independecia (it is possible that there will be no road names up).
• Continue to the large semi-circle, turn right onto the road running at the back of the circle.
• Continue with this road - it bears left as you leave the town.
• Keep on this road, passing the airport turn-off on your left. Continue with this road for 18km.
• As you come over a rise you will find Babalaza Restaurant on your right.
• The tar road bears right and a sand road continues straight. (7kms of sand)
• Keep straight on the sand road and follow signs to Flamingo Bay

Want to avoid Maputo try the following alternate route:

Approximately 40 km from the border post, turn left to Moamba. in Moamba stay on tar road and turn right. Shortly after leaving Moamba turn left and cross the river over okay new bridge. Tar now ends. Keep on this road through village of Sabie to Magude town (95km). Go through Magude, cross railroad bridge, turn left to Xinavane. Go straight through Xinavane to T junction. Turn left onto EN 1 towards Masia and Xai Xai. This route is shorter than route through Maputo and more scenic. 4 x 4 recommended. This only for 4x4 vehicles so please no small vehicles.
