Accommodation at Cowrie Lodge, Barra Beach

The accommodation at Cowrie Lodge comprises quaint, authentic reed and grass self-catering chalets sleeping 5 guests in the main house, 5 guests in the casita adjoining the main house (shared kitchen) and 5 guests in the chalet (one bedroom en-suite with open plan kitchen/lounge area which has 3 single beds).

The main house sleeps up to five guests and comprises two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, scullery, and a huge deck with a barbecue for dining and entertaining while gazing at the superb view and all the beach activities.

The adjoining casita features one en-suite bedroom with a double bed and an additional room with two single beds. The chalet comprises an en-suite bedroom, with three single beds in the open-plan lounge and kitchen area, and also features a small deck overlooking the ocean.

The lodge is serviced daily and has borehole water, gas and electricity. Guests are well looked after by our friendly, local Mozambique staff members.

Soak up the sun on the large deck, grab the freshest catch of the day as you watch the local fishermen head for shore and oh! don't forget your binoculars for spotting the dolphins and whales!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Guests are required to bring own bath and beach towels as well as all their self catering requirements.
No candles, mosquito coils, fireworks, or wood fires permitted.
4x4 or 2x4 vehicle with diff lock and sufficient ground clearance required.

Guests are advised to please bring their own towels, cleaning equipment, laundry powders, toilet paper, and garbage bags. 4x4 or 2x4 vehicles, with diff lock, are required as we are situated on 2 km of very sandy road, inaccessible by normal passenger vehicles.

DIRECTIONS TO COWRIE LODGE
From Maputo, follow the signs to Xai Xai (EN1). Best to fill up your vehicle at Xai Xai and continue north to Inhambane. Drive through the city of Inhambane and follow signboard to Tofo, Barra and the Airport. Continue with this road for approximately 15 minutes (badly potholed) until you reach the Barra/Tofo crossroads. With Bar Babalaza on your right hand side, continue straight on dirt road for approximately 6 Kms. On your right hand side will be a ‘big tree’ with vendors selling fruit/veg and many signs for various lodges.

Deflate you tyres to 1 bar at this point and turn right at the signboards. Continue on this beach sand road for approximately 2.5kms. Drive through Mantas da Barra Resort until you reach a wooden boom (ignore the no-entry sign)! Laura or Manuel will be there to help you unpack (or our guard Raoul after hours).
