The Bay View Development consists of Bay View Lodge - a superior selfcatering lodge, and Bay View Estate - privately owned, face brick and thatch beach houses. Both developments are located at Barra (Praia da Barra) on the north-eastern tip of the beautiful Barra peninsula, with an estuary behind and a l-o-n-g sandy beach in front of the two developments. It is a place to leave your stress behind, explore the underwater wonderland on your doorstep and enjoy the night sky, far away from bright city lights.

Welcome! We are approximately 485km north of Maputo, in Mozambique, and 25km from Inhambane town, in Inhambane Province, Mozambique. All roads leading to the lodge are tarred, except for the last 10km, which is dirt road. It has been hard packed with coral sand, making it easy to reach us with a normal passenger vehicle without any difficulty. NO 4x4 is needed to get to us, but is good to have if you want to explore off the beaten track.

Open plan kitchen and lounge, with breakfast corner. Beautiful patio with sea view.

*We have 3 x Two-Bedroom Units - sleeps between 4 - 6

* Group House - sleeps maximum 16
8-Bedroom Group House. This house is particularly suited for a group of friends or family that enjoy doing things together - dive groups, overlanders ..... Double storey with beautiful sea view from balcony. A smaller upstairs lounge. 8 x Bedrooms with two single beds each and airconditioned. Beds can be put together to form double beds. Three bathrooms with upstairs toilet and handwash basin. Fully equipped open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area. Large, covered patio with furniture and a braai.

The Lodge
Bedrooms are airconditioned and each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom - except Group House.
All kitchens are fully equipped for selfcatering - gas stove and oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, electric kettle, toaster, cutlery, crockery, pots and pans - many restaurants in the area when "cook" decides that the kitchen is closed!
All floors are tiled
Linen and bath towels are provided and laundered weekly
All beds have mosquito nets
All units are within 100m of the beach and most have at least a partial seaview
Beach towels and baby cots are not provided

There are daily direct return flights from Johannesburg to Inhambane with LAM, the official Mozambican airline. Return airport transfers to and from the lodge are provided at R100.00/person.

The Green Turtle - Pub & Restaurant
Our pub and restaurant - The Green Turtle - is on the beach, operated by a French couple - Joelle and Francois - that's been in Africa the past 10 Years. They prepare a daily menu with mouth watering light meals - specialising in fish and seafood - very different from the usual fare being served in the area.

If you don't want to cater for yourself, order a delicious breakfast, maybe a light lunch served on the deck while you watch the activity on the beach. The evening starts with sundowners on the deck, with The Green Turtle being the most important place when it fills up with folk just waiting to spread the latest news over Francois' dinner menu.

One thing is certain - there is no loud music. The Green Turtle is a 'kuier plek' for the whole family - kids included.
