Lodge Accommodation
Barra Lodge "casitas" have twin beds, mosquito nets, fans
and en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet.
Breakfast and dinner is included in your package, and you can enjoy
lunch in the restaurant or at the more relaxed beach bar.
Barra Lodge self catering chalets can sleep a maximum of 6 people,
there are two bedrooms sleeping 2 per bedroom and it is possible
to sleep two extra people in the living area on request.
All accommodation is serviced (cleaned) daily.

Scuba Diving:
We have a fully equipped PADI dive centre with all the
necessary facilities including kitting-up rooms, filling station,
rest areas, kit storage, lecture and first-aid areas. Please check
Barra Dive Resorts website for further information.
Ocean Safaris:
Ocean Safaris are also offered for diver and non-divers
wishing to experience all the creatures like Whalesharks and Dolphins
on the surface. These experiences last approx. 2 hours and are a
must. Catamaran Yacht Our luxury 33foot liveaboard catamaran offers
unforgettable day trips in our secluded estuary. Trips to Pansy
Island are offered as well as snorkeling trips.
Charter Boat Fishing:
Our experienced resident fishermen are on hand to introduce you
to our excellent fishing waters. A large number of game fish abound
in these waters including sailfish and pelagic species. This makes
this area a prime destination for fishing competitions.
Our ski boats offer the latest equipment and tackle to give you
the edge on catching the big one. We do encourage tag and release.
Dhow Trips:
Take a trip on a dhow and feel a great sense of history as the dhows
are still built as they were in ancient times. This is something
that must be experienced before this age old tradition dies out.
Mangrove:
Behind Barra Lodge is a saltwater mangrove with crystal clear waters
which can be explored by boat or on foot. This ecosystem is made
up of a fascinating chain of pioneering and sacrificial plants together
with a huge array of crustaceans. Flocks of flamingo’s, local
fish traps and stunning sunsets over the estuary make this a photographers
dream.
Sightseeing:
Inhambane City is steeped in history. This was the southerly most
trading port in Africa used by the Arabs. Vasco Da Gama landed here
in 1534. The cathedrals, old colonial Portugese architecture, African
culture and local markets make this a fascinating town to browse
around. A number of restaurants in and around Inhambane offer a
variety of meal options.
Horse Riding:
A guided horse ride on the beach is a once in a lifetime experience.
The romance of riding along the beach with the sea and sand and
wind in your face is an unforgettable experience. Beginners are
welcome.
Quad Bikes:
Quad biking through the coconut plantations opens new vistas and
following the tracks and paths through these areas allows one to
experience the real
Mozambique while riding through local villages and into the heart
of Mozambique.These are guided and managed by Barra staff. Quad
bikes and vehicles are prohibited from the beaches as we wish to
preserve the rich and unspoilt marine life.
Water Sports:
For water lovers a host of activities are available. The bay is
ideal for hobie-cat and laser dingy sailing. Snake rides, paddle
ski’s, surfboards and boogie boards are just some of the activities
available.
Directions to Barra Lodge:
From Johannesburg:
• Take the N4 - past Witbank, Mbombela(Nelspruit) and all
the way to the Komatipoort border.
• Once through the Ressano Garcia border post, follow the
main toll road to Maputo
• As you enter Maputo proceed through the toll gate and shortly
after take a left turn
onto EN1 to Xai-Xai. This is the main coastal road north.
• Pass Villages of Maracuene (28km), Manhica (75km), Macia
(143km) and Chissano
to the town of Xai-Xai 204km North of Maputo, this is a good place
to re-fuel.
• Continue on the North Coastal Road passing smaller villages
and towns,
including Chidenguele (262km), Quissico (392km) and Inharrime (372km).
• From Inharrime continue for approximately 45km passing Cumbano
which has a large
radio mast on the left side of the road to LINDELA
• Keep a look out for a sign board on your left saying LINDELA.
• Immediately after this sign the tar road forks, turn right.
• Inhambane is approximately 33km from this turn.
• Once in Inhambane drive to where you see the harbour quay
on your left.
• Turn right at Broad Road Ave. DA Independecia (it is possible
that there will be no road
names up).
• Continue to the large semi-circle, turn right onto the road
running at the back
of the circle.
• Continue with this road - it bears left as you leave the
town.
• Keep on this road, passing the airport turn-off on your
left. Continue with this road
for 18km.
• As you come over a rise you will find Babalaza Restaurant
on your right.
• The tar road bears right and a sand road continues straight.
(7kms of sand)
• Keep straight on the sand road and follow signs to Barra
Lodge
Want to avoid Maputo try the following alternate route:
Approximately 40 km from the border post, turn left to Moamba. in
Moamba stay on tar road and turn right. Shortly after leaving Moamba
turn left and cross the river over okay new bridge. Tar now ends.
Keep on this road through village of Sabie to Magude town (95km).
Go through Magude, cross railroad bridge, turn left to Xinavane.
Go straight through Xinavane to T junction. Turn left onto EN 1
towards Masia and Xai Xai. This route is shorter than route through
Maputo and more scenic. 4 x 4 recommended. This only for 4x4 vehicles
so please no small vehicles.
