O Lar Do Ouro is Portuguese for "Home of Gold", and a
golden welcome is exactly what you will receive when you arrive
at our guest lodge in Ponta Do Ouro, Mozambique.
O Lar Do Ouro Guest Lodge is situated away from the relative hustle
and bustle of the little village centre of Ponta Do Ouro. Come and
relax with us in the charming environment of lush vegetation around
our "Um lar fora de casa", your "Home away from Home".
The beach is only a few minutes' walk away through the quaint village,
or you can relax by our pool and listen to the soothing murmur of
the sea.
The lodge offers accommodation on a dinner, bed & breakfast
basis. The fully air-conditioned double or twin rooms offer rustic
luxury, with en-suite showers, and each with a verandah. All rooms
and beds are protected from mosquitoes with netting.
The bar area overlooks the pool for those lazy afternoons in the
sun where you contentedly lie back and catch up on your reading
or just sip cocktails!
The lodge is owner managed, and Teresa and Janice will pamper you
and cater to your every need from early morning tea/coffee to exotic
sundowners or late-night shooters in the bar. Our guest lodge is
here for your pleasure. After all, we have pledged to make it your
home from home!
All non-SA passport holders require an entry visa which can be
obtained from the Mozambican Embassy/Consulate for a cost of about
R80 to R100. You will also need 2 ID photos to accompany your application,
and a passport that is still valid for another 6 months minimum.
Mozambique is a malaria risk area and you should consult your nearest
British Travel Clinic or doctor for advice on taking prophylactics.
O Lar Do Ouro Guest Lodge has netting on all doors and windows and
takes every precaution possible, but don't forget to bring your
Tabard.
For those of you with 4x4's please note that you will need your
car registration papers when crossing the border. You will also
be required to take out third party insurance, currently costing
approximately R180.00 per vehicle — boats, trailers etc are
extra. The immigration department requires R12.00 per person on
entry into Mozambique.
The border is open from 08h00 to 17h00 each day, peak season periods,
please check times.
Currently Ponta Do Ouro does not have a bank or ATM available so
don’t forget to draw money, ZAR widely accepted. A couple
of places will take credit cards.
Guests travelling by car will be picked up at the border by staff
from the Lodge. There is a car park at the border which is safe
and secure and currently costs R20.00 per day.
