Set in the hub of Ponta do Ouro and yet only a 300m walk from the
main beach, Brittlestar overlooks the bay of Ponta Do Ouro.
Brittlestar is a 9 bedroom lodge. All bedrooms are air-conditioned.
Seven of the bedrooms have shared bathrooms while two of the family
bedrooms each have their own en-suite bathrooms. The lodge has satellite
television (DSTV), Home Theatre System and secure parking. Brittlestar
also boasts a roof bar, which is fully operational with Pool Table
and Dart Board. Bathrooms have both hot & cold running water.
Enjoy delicious meals, cuisine to please even the most discerning
palate. For the energetic: a walk up to the lighthouse…for
the less energetic, soak up the sun on pristine beaches or simply
relax upstairs at the roof bar & enjoy the picturesque view
whilst sipping tantalizing cocktails. New on the cards for early
2008 is en-suite bathrooms for all bedrooms!
Brittlestar offers diving excursions to reefs that teem with marine
life. We have impressive fish diversity on our reefs, with over
1100 species having been positively identified. Visit "Bass
City" for encounters with "Bert" our friendly resident
Potato Bass … or "Pinnacles" or "Atlantis"
for our more advanced divers; for adrenalin-filled encounters with
Hammerheads & Zambezis to name but a few of the sharks you might
see. Don't forget your snorkels; as dolphins or whale-sharks might
also be in the vicinity. With so many other reefs to explore, we
can guarantee you a unique diving experience!
Brittlestar's aim is to put the pleasure back into diving, by making
diving as effortless as possible. No gear to carry, or boats to
load! You & your equipment are transported to & from the
beach, our staff washes your gear & cylinders filled ready for
the next dive. We have a fully equipped 8metre rubber duck. They
are inspected annually to ensure compliance to the Mozambican Maritime
Safety Authority regulations. This includes ensuring radio communications,
GPS, flares, safety flotation devices, DAN oxygen, first aid kits,
etc. We emphasize diving safety and our equipment is maintained
to a high standard. All dives are Instructor supervised.
As we only accommodate between 24-28 guests at any one time &
Brittlestar is an owner-managed resort, we can guarantee you the
personal attention & professional service you deserve. No more
competing for dive boats & dive times! Brittlestar is the perfect
dive destination, with packages to suit every budget.
Brittlestar also has a 10-sleeper house on the same premises. The
house sleeps ten privately (three air conditioned bedrooms), DSTV,
Home Theatre System, Fridge/Freezer. One bedroom has an en-suite
bathroom with an additional bathroom for the other two bedrooms.
The house has secure parking. The house can be hired as a single
entity with or without self-catering or as individual rooms on a
dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
This is diving as it should be!
Other Activities
There are numerous activities available for guests to do in Ponta
do Ouro. All these activities can be booked and arranged by us should
you wish to participate in any of them!
1. Fishing Charters - inclusive bait, tackle,
rods & soft drinks
Rate quoted is per boat of 6 people
2. Spear Fishing Safaris - inclusive of soft
drinks
Half Day Spear fishing charter with a maximum of 4 people. You need
to provide your own equipment. From R 2000.00 per boat. Equipment
available by arrangement well in advance.
3. Ocean Explorer Safari - includes snorkel gear
An exclusive boat trip looking for whales (June - December), dolphins,
turtles. Snorkel on shallow reefs. R1300.00 per 2 hour Safari. Alternatively
R220.00 per person with a minimum of 6 people required.
4. Guided Kayak Safari - includes use of kayak.
A 2 Hour guided Kayak Safari from the Point of Gold to the Lighthouse
and back. R165.00 per person, minimum of 2 people required
5. Care 4 You - Beauty Salon
For those that wish to be pampered we offer facials, massages, pedicures,
manicures, Eyelash & eyebrow tints, waxing etc.
6. Kite Surfing Lessons - includes rental of
kite
2 Hour lesson @ R375.00 per person per lesson. On average 3-4 lessons
required to ride. IKO certified instructors.
7. Surfing Lessons - includes rental of surf
board
1½ Hour lesson @ R150.00 per lesson.
8. Dolphin Encounters
A 1 hour encounter requiring a minimum of 6 and maximum of 12 people.
R220.00 per adult, R170.00 per child under 12. Smaller groups can
be accommodated on existing trips booked if space is available.
Funds generated from the above programs goes to DCA as a contribution
to various conservation and research initiatives.
10. Horse Safaris - Ponta Mamoli
Quad ride to Mamoli, Horse Ride and lunch provided. Booking in advance
is essential.
11. Jet Ski Banana Rides
3 Seater Banana charged at R100.00 per person per half hour. Minimum
2 people.
12. Quad Bike Rentals
Hourly Rate - R350.00 per hour includes full tank of petrol
½ Day Rate - R500.00 includes full tank of petrol
Full Day Rate - R650.00 includes full tank of petrol
13. Quad Ventures - Full day with Guide
Includes snorkeling, bird watching, breakfast, lunch, sundowner
(cocktail of your choice), snacks. R800.00 per person. Minimum 2
people.
14. Quad Sundowners - Lake Malongane
Snacks and sundowners provided (Cocktail of your choice). R300.00
per person. Min 2 people.
Quad Bikes
Please note there are new rules that apply as of immediate effect
(14 July 2005) in Ponta do Ouro in terms of Quad Bikes. Due to the
number of high accident rates, the following rules have been instituted.
1. Children under the age of 16 Years will not be allowed to ride
Quad bikes in town
2. Underage children may only ride the quads in the designated area
outside the village. Quads must be transported to and from the area
on a trailer.
3. Unruly behavior on quads will not be tolerated
4. The official speed limit in the village is 20Km's per hour, anyone
exceeding this will be fined
5. Noisy quads will be fined
6. You are required to carry your drivers license with you at all
times when driving your quad
Persons not adhering to the above rules will be open to prosecution.
Minimum fine of R1000.00 and or confiscation of the bike.
