The old Portuguese architecture and tropical surroundings of Inhambane
Town make the town a historical must-see for every tourist. The
town of Inhambane is only a 30 minute drive from the resort and
offers a daily food market, restaurants and other sight-seeing spots.
What makes the town unique is its heritage. Inhambane is one of
the oldest towns in Southern Africa .
As Vasco da Gama rounded Africa in the late 1400s he sailed into
the beautiful bay of Inhambane to replenish stocks and to explore.
The explorer fell in love with the area and named it “Terra
de Boa Gente” - land of the friendly, gentle people. Fourty
years later the Portuguese established a trading post and settled
in Mozambique . Inhambane was an important port, and still has a
large fleet of working dhows.
